Dear brother,
I hope things are going well for you, I am sending this letter from my prison cell in Washington D.C. Mr John Singleton Mosby sued me in justice, and that is why am I imprisoned, I stopped spying because I didn’t want to not see you again, and I feared that. I was accused of playing a prominent role in the capture of Union General Edwin H. Stoughton. My brother, take care of yourself and never make mistakes as bad as I did.
I have some unfinished business involving justice that I have to take care of.
I have to take legal actions against the New York Times for having violated the amendment 1 and of amendment 8: freedom of press and prohibiting the federal government from imposing excessive bail. I will do this if I ever get out and if I ever get the chance to express myself. But because of my illness, I have some sad news that might happen: I might not ever see you again and you will be the one that will have to finish my unfinished affairs. I am extremely sorry that you have to go through this and that you were involved in this when you didn’t do a thing.
Going to jail was the worse experience of my whole life and I’m sorry to let you know that you will maybe endure with the consequences. I played with fire and I am not proud of it. Please, while I’m gone, can you take care of our family and make sure that they aren’t in danger. I might not see you again so tell my husband that I love him and that I thank him for everything that he did to support me. Also tell him that I will do my best to get out of this cell. Tell my family that I know that I have disappointed them, but that I am trying my best to help them.
Sincerely,
Your sister Antonia.
